Since it’s August, the month in which us South African’s celebrate women, I thought I would dedicate this month’s Book of the month to my favorite author and one of the bravest faces in literature history. Harper Lee.
As you can guess, we have a double do for August’s Book of the month, which is….
1. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
2. Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee
To Kill a Mockingbird was probably one of the first somewhat serious books I ever read, and it completely shaped my life. The values and lessons make this book one that should be read by everyone at least once in life. As for me, once every six months is how often I delve into the lives of Scout, Jem and Boo.
As you can probably guess, I found myself at Exclusive Books the day the long awaited sequel Go Set a Watchman was released and left the store with the most gigantic megawatt smile you can imagine, clutching that book like treasure to my chest. This was just as well written as its predecessor, but it also set into place the realities of life we’re all exposed to as we grow older. This, I think, was the very charm of the book.
But anyway, that’s all just my two cents, but go grab a copy of these books from your local library or bookstore and read along with me for the month of August, and comment, email or dm me with your opinions. Let’s just make it a little party….(is my nerd showing?)
